We collaborated with dozens of experts in weight stigma and binge eating disorder to create Beneath the Floorboards — featuring Chevese Turner, Founder of Binge Eating Disorder Association. Our goal is to raise awareness of how pervasive and damaging weight stigma is in our society and to shed light on binge eating disorder and other mental health issues that may or may not be impacting individuals in the higher weight category.
This 20 film tracks the true story of Chevese Turner and others who struggle with weight bias and its harmful effects. Throughout the documentary, treatment professionals across many disciplines share their findings and shed light on the gravity of this mental health predicament. The film presents an intense look at bullying due to weight stigma, the insidious bias that assaults individuals living in larger bodies daily, and the feelings of shame, disordered eating, and other adverse effects that plague these individuals as a result of this bullying.
Featuring: Chase Bannister, Dr. Cynthia Bulik, Dr. Deb Burgard, Dr. Wendy Oliver-Pyatt, Amy Pershing, Dr. Pat Santucci, and Chevese Turner.
Since its release, the Floorboards film has been seen by thousands of individuals and implemented in schools, treatment centers, hospitals and universities as an effective introduction to binge eating disorder and weight stigma. The film is accompanied by resource materials, discussion guidebook and an array of handouts.
